DON'T FORGET YOUR LOCAL FARMERS MARKET - PRICE COMPARISON VERSUS WALMART

I went to our local farmers market this morning to pick up a few things from the local produce people. That was the first thing to do on my long list of errands. Also on my list was a much dreaded trip to Walmart. I have not shopped there in forever and have not missed it one bit. After getting my cart from the lady who could have a family of four living in her hair, I proceeded about 20 feet and realized my cart did not want to make a left turn...so back to the lady with the hair to exchange my cart. I am always amazed when I see people with their carts filled up to the brim with groceries and chuckle because they think they are saving so much over the grocery store. I used to be one of them! The key word there is "used to be". Thank you Lord I am not anymore! I am now a satisfied loyal Publix shopper.

At this point you are probably wondering how this relates to the local farmers market! I decided to price match everything I bought at the market this morning with walmart's everyday low prices (LOL). Here is my list. The first price is Walmart's price and the 2nd is what I paid at the market.

Green Peppers $ .78 EACH... 3 FOR $1.00
Zucchini $2.48 LB.... $.99 LB.
Roma Tomatoes $1.98 LB.... $1.50 LB.
Regular Tomatoes $2.88 LB.... $1.50 LB.
Honeydew Melon $3.00... $3.00
Corn on Cob $ .50 each... $ .50 each

So you can see from the few items listed that Walmart DOES NOT always offer the best prices. The same goes for cereal, oatmeal, canned veggies, frozen veggies, laundry detergent, diapers (when I stack coupons), etc. For example, Quaker Instant Oatmeal sells for $3.79 at Publix and $2.54 at Walmart. This is where people think they are getting the better deal at Walmart. But they are wrong! I don't buy it at Publix when it is $3.79...I wait until it goes BOGO, use my coupons, and it is cheaper than I can buy it at Walmart everyday. If I had $1.00 coupons and used those coupons both at Walmart and Publix (using the BOGO sale), I would pay $1.79 for 2 boxes at Publix and $3.08 for 2 boxes at Walmart. That is when I stock up and buy what I think my family will use for the next 6 weeks. That is just one item. Multiply this times everything you have in your cart and believe me you will see the savings immediately. !
