If you watched the Today Show this morning, they had information on where to save money starting with food. Stores like Costco are best for your meat and seafood. Did you know that Costco works on a margin of .55%. In fact, their profit for 2010 was 1.3 billion (yes, that is billion) and made 1.7 billion in membership fees. (Walmart's margins are about 6%). I have always said it was a great gimmic to actually charge people a membership fee to come into a store to have to buy in large quantities! I love Costco, but I don't buy grocery items anymore. I can get things cheaper using the BOGO sales and coupons.
They also said canned goods and cereal are best bought at the Dollar Store. While that may be true for some, again they don't know the value of a BOGO sale and a coupon. Vegetables and fresh fruit are best bought at a farmers market. I have to agree with that. You can get the best prices and freshest produce at your local farmers market.
Are you looking for a new TV? According to this the best time to buy a TV is after the superbowl. Makes sense to me...it must be a man thing to want a new TV to watch the game on. All I personally care about is the commercials!
Need a new laptop? Now and next month are actually the best time for this. You will see many back to school sales this time of year. We have actually bought our daughter a new laptop last week with a great deal we found at Staples.
Looking to buy a new car? First check out www.edmunds.com and www.kbb.com. Another good site is www.truecar.com to find out what other people are paying for a particular vehicle. New sites like www.carwoo.com and www.zag.com will let dealers haggle among themselves to give you the best price. Now that is the way to buy a new car!
