WALGREENS TRIP 2/28/10 AND USED NO R.R.!

Nothing for me at Walgreens this week, but I had to go and get my daughter the Starbucks Mocha for $.25 each and add to my dental floss collection. So I spent a total of $.70 for the above 4 items! Oh...I didn't purchase the mocha 1/2 full. She got to it before I could get the picture!

I was going to do the Tylenol PM deal for $.49 each, but I already have sooo many Advil PM, Tylenol PM, Aleve, and Excedrin that I thought I might just leave it for someone else!!

PUBLIX TRIP AND OH THOSE SO WONDERFUL RAINCHECKS!

Not a good week at Publix in my opinion. But that is not always a bad thing. That means I don't spend as much. This trip was good because I had a raincheck left for All Detergent, regularly $5.99, for $2.99. When I paired this with the $2.00 coupon from a few weeks ago, it meant detergent for $1.00 a bottle. This did not beat the time when I got Clorox AND All Detergent for $1.00, but it was still a great deal! You could also take your Big Lots Ad and have it price matched at Target and pay $.50 per bottle. I did not because I was able to get the 25% more bottle (which is 40 loads instead of 32) for $.50 more at Publix. I paid $35.63 for all these groceries, but it should have been $30.63 because I forgot to give them a $5 coupon!!

I paid $.45 a box for the Uncrustables (which is definitely an item I would not purchase full price of 1/2 price for that matter), $4.99 for the oranges (I just had to have them), 2 pkgs. chicken, $10.07 worth of deli meat, cream cheese, lettuce, baby carrots, bananas, 2 blocks of cheese, 4 pkgs. bandaids and the other items shown. I am done. That is all I need for the week. I already have enough bread (and more in the freezer), eggs, and milk for the week. Of course, I have a freezer loaded up with vegetables, steaks, chicken, pork, etc. So, not a bad week for $35 with 5 bottles of All Detergent. Those would have been $30 alone!

TARGET TRIP 2/25/10, SPENT $4.20

Head over to Target to get some good deals on Hefty Freezer/Storage Bags. I only bought 6 to add to the 20+ I already have in my garage. They were on sale for $1 each and I used a $1 off 2 MQ and a $.20 blinkie on three of them. Final cost for each was $.40 each! The toothpaste was also a good deal at $.25 per tube after coupons and the mascara was FREE plus overage!

The Quaker Oatmeal Double Packs were on an end cap for $3.48 which is an awesome price. Use the $1 MQ from the 2/7 RP and get it for $2.48! They also had Family Packages of Wheat Thins and Honey Nut Cheerios. Pair those with MQ's for a great deal also!

RUN...DON'T WALK TO BIG LOTS!!

Head over to Big Lots NOW! There is a $15 Oil of Olay Rebate here and you can make money on this one. When you purchase and 3 Facial Moisturizers, Facial Treatments, Facial Cleansers, Hand & Body Lotions, Body Washes or 6+ Bar Soap, you can submit your receipt for a $15 rebate. The purchases have to be done by March 12, 2010. There is a limit of one rebate per name, address or envelope.

The Body Washes are $1.00 each at Big Lots! Submit for the $15 rebate...that is a big moneymaker! I also bought 2 Olay Regenerist micro-sculpting creams for $10 each. These sell at Walgreens for $26.99!! Did you ever see the comercial that compares this cream to the $200 cream?? Well, I will let you know how it works! I plan on sending in a total of 4 rebates for a total of $60! I also bought the Olay Complete Moisturizer for $3 each and a Eye Regenerating Cream with Concealer for $10. These sell at Walgreens for $19.50! I spent $44 on all the lotions, creams, and body washes and will submit for $60 in rebates. I will give my mom, my sister, and my brother a nice surprise when they receive a $15 rebate from me. I am thrilled just to get my one $15 rebate!

TESTIMONIAL FROM AMY, ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER!

I received this today from Amy who took the class about 1 month ago. Way to go Amy!!

I just want to say that taking this coupon class has not only saved me tons of money already, but given me a fun new hobby to keep me busy! Within the first week I was able to get a pack of diapers for $1.00 and 24 jars of baby food for $2.00!! I paid $3 and saved $32, I couldn't believe it. That was before I even had any coupon inserts saved up, now that I do I'm saving even more money. I refuse to pay full price for anything now, or even half price for that matter. I feel like I had just been throwing money away before and wish I had known about this years ago. Thank you so much for sharing all of your coupon knowledge with the rest of us! Amy

NEVER MAKE COPIES OF COUPONS!

I stopped into Walgreens today to redeem a COUPON FOR A FREE EXCEDRIN and they had to call a manager over. Apparently, they have been having issues with people making copies of coupons so they wanted to make sure the coupon was legitimate. Of course, it was, and I was able to walk out with my free Excedrin. PLEASE, PLEASE, NEVER make copies of coupons. It is considered fraud and you don't want to ruin it for all the honest people and all the savings we get with coupons!

WALGREENS SPENT $5.27, SAVED $33.53!

OK...I MADE A MISTAKE!! I thought the lip product was on a monthly register rewards deal so I expected to pay less and get a $3 RR in addition to the $8 I received. Not a big mistake but it made my out-of-pocket a little more than I expected. I still got 2 razors with 3 blades each, another Body Wash, deodorant, and 2 jars of face cream (1 of which was immediately confiscated by my daughter when I walked into the door)! Still not a bad deal for $5.27 plus I received $8 RR to roll into next week!!

HERE IS A TESTIMONIAL FROM DIANA WHO TOOK THE CLASS ABOUT ONE MONTH AGO:

Well,
First let me start with saying that I had been doing coupons before I took the class. I was saving money just not like I had seen on TV or heard others doing. But since I have taken the class I have more than doubled my savings. The best one is CVS this week. I spent $60.88 and saved $109.19!!! Plus I got back $14.00 in ECBs!! Or at Target total bill came to $110.05 but I only paid $26.75!!! I couldn't have done this without your class. I am forever grateful and when people ask I tell them proudly where I learned how to save all this money!! ~Diana Dennis

200 PEOPLE AND COUNTING!!

I started teaching the coupon class in late September. I only had a couple of classes in December because we were awaiting the birth of my first grandson, Bryce, and because of the busy Christmas holiday season.

Two Hundred people have taken the class so far, and I thank you for all of the referrals of friends, co-workers, etc. I hope all of you are saving TONS of money!

DOING THE MATH ON COUPONS, THEY'RE BACK IN FASHION, WITH GOOD REASON: A HOUR SPENT CUTTING AND CLIPPING CAN YIELD ABOUT $100 IN SAVINGS!

I found this article that was in the Wall Street Journal that I found very interesting. I thought I would share it with you.

Clipping coupons hardly sounds like the subject of high finance–or even medium finance.

Save a dollar on cat food, some detergent or a couple of boxes of cereal. Who can be bothered? Who has the time?

A growing number of people, it turns out. And they're shrewder than it may at first appear.

The Great American Coupon is making a big comeback–thanks to the Great American Recession.

We redeemed some 3.3 billion coupons last year–a remarkable 27 percent leap from 2008, and the first year-on-year increase in 17 years, according to a report issued at the end of January by Inmar, a coupon-processing agent. (Online coupon use skyrocketed–companies issued twice as many as in 2008, but redemptions rose 360 percent.) The big upturn took off in October 2008, just after Lehman went belly up.

At first blush you can see why coupons fell out of fashion for so long–and why so many consumers still ignore them.

You have to make time to visit a coupon Web site or collect the flyers from your mailbox, the supermarket or newspaper inserts. You need to sort through to find the ones you want, cut them out, stick them in your purse or wallet–and remember to use them when you are at the cash register and you are trying to remember whether you bought everything on your shopping list and where you parked the car.

Average saving per coupon: Just $1.44, according to the Inmar report.

But let's treat this low finance topic for a moment the way we treat high finance. Let's subject it to the same math.

How long does it actually take to clip and use a coupon? Certainly the more you use, the less overall time you will spend per coupon, because so many of the costs–getting flyers, sorting coupons and so on–are generalized. Let's assume you spend a minute per coupon.

Saving $1.44 for a minute's effort is the equivalent of saving $14.40 for 10 minutes'.

Hourly rate: $86.40.

Associated Press
.Maybe this would be as good a time as any to point out that the typical American working stiff–those lucky enough to have jobs right now–climbs out of bed each morning, goes through the miseries of commuting and endures the daily grind at the workplace for about $20 an hour.

Furthermore, money saved comes with an additional benefit. Unlike the money you earn at work, it is tax free. No payroll taxes. No federal or state income tax.

If your marginal tax rate were, say, 20 percent, you would have to earn $108 before tax to take home $86.40. If your marginal tax rate were 30 percent, you'd have to earn $123.

Very few of us ever do this kind of math, because we tend to treat low finance differently from high finance, and small sums differently from big ones. No wonder, even today, 99 percent of coupons are thrown away unused.

Yet finance isn't a separate topic from the rest of our personal lives. For all of us, our scarcest resource is time. Putting the right value on it, and putting it to the most productive use, is a financial challenge, as well as a personal one.

And the individual amounts of money may seem small, but they prove the old adage about tiny acorns and mighty oaks. Someone who saves $25 a week will save $100 a month, and $1,200 a year. Over a lifetime that can easily grow to $100,000 or more–even after accounting for inflation.

If motivation is an issue, the next time you find yourself facing a stack of coupon booklets and flyers don't ask yourself if you can be bothered. Try asking yourself if you'd like to earn more than $100 an hour for a job you can do, at home, while sitting on the sofa watching TV.

PUBLIX TRIP 2/12 - SPENT $15.30, SAVED 85%

Another successful Publix trip! I spent $13.47 plus tax for a total of $15.30. This included fresh vegetables (broccoli, asparagus, strawberries), 4-6 pk. of yogurt (paid $.25), 3 pkgs frozen vegetables, 2 loaves Arnold bread, 5 Covergirl Eyeshadow (all FREE), 2 pkgs 97% FF Hot Dogs ($1 each), 2 boxes Kotex Tampons ($.25 each), 2 boxes Kotex Liners ($.25 each), 6 boxes Special K Fruit Crisps, 200 Calorie Pizza (FREE), 1 lb. Boars Head Deli Turkey, 4 Valentine Cards (FREE), 2 Breakstone Cottege Cheese Doubles (FREE), orange, and 2 Knox.

ARE YOU AS CONFUSED AS I AM WITH THE COUPON INSERTS?

So, I opened my Record this morning and did the happy dance when I saw 4 inserts in my paper. I should have known it was to good to be true. I went up the street to the "Jiffy" mart and bought another Record. When I got in my car, I noticed there were only 2 inserts in there! I marched right back in and checked all the other papers and they were all the same! This store is only about 1 mile from my house...how could they be different?? I tried to explain to him my paper had 4 and his only has 2 and it was like talking to someone from a foreign country...oh yeah, he was from a foreign country! So I paid the extra $.80 and bought a Times Union because it had ALL the coupons.

Next stop, off to Walgreens to do my two Dove Men's Body Wash deal. I had two $5 RR's and I was going to use the paper(s) as my filler items which meant I should have paid just over $1.00 OOP for each transaction. When I picked up the Record, it felt very light. When I looked inside it had NO INSERTS AT ALL!! I mean no Walgreens ad, no Target ad, no CVS ad...NOTHING. I looked at three or more papers and all the same thing. So once again I was forced to buy the Times Union making my OOP $1.97 for each transaction.

I would have paid $2.00 for the paper anyway so at least I walked away with 2 body washes and two $6 RR's to roll into next week.

The moral of the story is ALWAYS CHECK YOUR PAPERS FOR THE CORRECT NUMBER OF INSERTS BEFORE YOU BUY THEM!! HAD I NOT CHECKED, I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT A PAPER WITH NO INSERTS IN IT!! If that happens to you, just go over to the Record and they will give you another insert!

I checked all my Record inserts against the Times Union and there was only 1 difference in the SmartSource. The Jax paper had a Freds insert and we had a Direct TV. Other than that, all coupons and coupon values were the same.

How did I do it? The Bratwurst and Sausage were BOGO at Winn Dixie. I had 8 BOGO coupons...that means I get all 16 for FREE!! Can we say Sausage for Superbowl???

Remember, you get 2 refill razors in the package. With the cost of razors, I would call this an awsome deal!

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY INSERTS!!

Be on the lookout for four (4) inserts for this Sunday's paper. I will keep you posted on how many inserts we get in the St. Augustine Record versus the Florida Times Union! Always make sure you get 2 or 4 papers so you can use a coupon on each BOGO deal!

NEW UPDATE ABOUT ST. AUGUSTINE RECORD INSERTS

I have told many of you there is little difference between the Records inserts and the Times Union inserts. There may be a page that is different but it didn't justify me buying a Times Union for $2.00 over the Record for $1.25.

Did anyone notice there was only 1 insert in the Record this past week? The Red Plum was missing. There were 2 inserts in the Times Union. Apparently, they are cutting back and not putting all the inserts in the Record such as the Target ad and the Red Plum insert. What a bummer!!
