I'M BACK FROM MIAMI AND I KNOW COUPONERS DON'T SHOP THERE

I just got back from Miami and I can tell you one thing...couponers don't live there. Before I headed down there on Thursday, I stopped at three Walgreens trying to do the Maalox deal. Every single shelf was wiped clean in all of our stores. Not to worry...I'm headed south and I will just buy it there. Not only did the shelf show no signs of anyone buying it, I could not buy the lower price Maalox and get the coupon adjusted down. I don't think the manager knew what a coupon was. OK...I can deal with that. At least I got 6 bottles of Maalox paying $1.41 OOP and got back $10 in RR's. Even if I decided to turn right around and walk back into the store and buy $8.59 worth of merchandise, it was worth it.

The second reason I know couponers don't live in Miami is because coupon books were everywhere! What a glorious day when you walked into the store and saw the display with tons of books! No one there cared about them. No one cared you could save $1 on a roll of paper towels or get a jar of Ragu for $.25. No one. You're in Miami! They accused my daughter of copying her coupons. She had to give them a coupons 101 lesson to explain she did not copy coupons and you would know they were copied if the numbers in the upper right were the same. They also don't like competitor coupons. We complain here about not getting double coupons, but they only accept Winn Dixie as a competitor. How many WD coupons are there out there? Not many.

The moral to the story is be glad we have coupon-friendly stores. When you use them down there they look at you like you have two heads. Her grocery bill is about to go up dramatically but on the flip side the shopping was AWESOME! Have you ever seen a Marshalls with 15 registers and all of them running? It was unbelievable! We went to IKEA not once but twice! Both times the chocolate at the register was calling my name and I had to buy it! At $1 a large bar, it is definitely worth it and probably some of the best chocolate I have ever had. That was worth the trip alone. No, it wasn't. Seeing my daughter and granddaughter after they moved there 2 weeks ago was awesome. I can't wait to go back!

COUPONERS WORST NIGHTMARE

I happened to look in my wallet today and (GASP!) found three $5 RR's that expired two days ago!! That is like throwing $15 in the trash! I called the US 1 store near the mall and asked if they would take expired RR's and they said "NO". The sweat was on my brow as I dialed the SR 16 store and spoke to the manager. I always knew I liked that store the best! He asked me when I was coming and I said "As fast as I can get off the phone!" I was able to get the following with my RR's:

7 boxes Kleenex
2 Pantene Curly Hair Products
1 Cover Girl Powder Foundation

TOTAL AFTER $15 RR's and coupons $4.03

GOT BACK $4 in RR's...so $.03 OOP
After all that, I realized I forgot my $1 Cover Girl coupon at home but who the heck cares when I got to use my expired RR's!! Lesson learned!

OK...IF YOU DIDN'T BUY THE GLAD TRASH BAGS THIS PAST WEEK, YOU WILL WANT TO BUY THEM THIS WEEK! Yipee!! I am so glad that I didn't buy the Glad Trash Bags this sale ad that ends on Wed. Hopefully, you printed the $3 MQ for Glad Bags because it is no longer available. Stack the $3 MQ with the $1 Target Q and you have FREE TRASH BAGS!! I will be picking 2 free trash bags and adding it to my stockpile of about 15 boxes that I paid between $1.79 per box for some (bought on advantage buy) and $2.30 a box for others. Also, if you have not used your Excedrin Coupons that were available through snail mail, use those this week to make it a $.50 MM. My coupon is for $3.50 off and they are on sale for $2.99 this week. Nothing better than free pain relievers and getting paid to take it out of the store.

CVS , SPENT $1.84

I did the following in three transactions. I bought the gum, 8 of them, using the BOGO coupon with the BOGO sale. The coupon was only good for up to $1.00 so my total for 8 packs of gum were $1.47.

The next two transactions I did with two different cards. I had a $5 ECB on one card and a $4 ECB on the other. The cough medicine was on sale for $5 and I used a $1 printable coupon. My total was $4 ($0 OOP) and I got back a $5 ECB. Then I did it again and bought another 2 packs of gum and another cough syrup. I used my $5 ECB, paid $.37 OOP and got back another $5 ECB.

They were out of Listerine so I had to get a Raincheck.

Also, if you were lucky enough to print the Nature Made Vitamin Q, they will be BOGO beginning 1/30/11. You can also get this Q in the January ALL YOU magazine.

MY FABULOUS FINDS!

Margaret, a follower of the blog, e-mailed me and told me about the Sertoma Thrift Shop located on US1 north of Home Depot in the small plaza. They get bread, rolls, and all bakery items at the end of the day from Publix, Food Lion and Winn Dixie. There is a cup there and you can take what you want and put $.50 in the cup. Today I bought Chicago Hard Rolls which were dated 1/20/11 and a package of Cinnamon Raisen Bisquits. I would have paid $6.28 for these if I walked into Publix today. Both of these were in date and were fresh when we ate them. If you are ever in the area, walk in and check out the assortment of bread, pastries, donuts, rolls, etc. that you can get super cheap. Thanks Margaret for the tip!

Also, while I was in there they had a counter full of Mary Kay Makeup. I was just saying a few days ago that I needed to watch for a sale on moisturizer because I was getting low. I was able to pick up all the items pictured for just under $18!! Everything was reduced 80%. This is what I got:

Age Fighting Moisturizer (not that I need anything age fighting! LOL)
Balancing Moisturizer
Satin Lips Lip Balm
2 Gift Pack Satin Hands
Concealer
Lip Liner
Eye Liner
2 Intense Moisturizing Cream
3 sample size Eye Cream

Go check it out and pick up some bread and Mary Kay!

HOW TO FIGURE THE PERCENT YOU SAVED

I have been asked how you figure out the percent saved. You will see me post my shopping trips and give the amount I spent and the percent saved. You simply add the amount you spent with the "Your Savings at Publix" amount. This amount is totalling your vendor coupons, store coupons, and special price savings (includes BOGOS and sales)

Example:

Spent $18.96
Total Savings $99.28

TOTAL $118.24

Then you take the $99.28 (total savings at Publix) and divide into the total spent $118.24 and you will get the percentage saveD WHICH IS 84%!!

FUNNY QUESTIONS ABOUT EXTREME COUPONERS!

Here are some questions I found that were googled after people watched the show "Extreme Couponers"

"How do extreme couponers find coupons for everything?"

We could tell you but then we'd have to kill you! We are part of a secret society and you need to be a member to know all of our well guarded secrets.

"Extreme couponing not possible"

Au contraire mon frere. Quite possible. There are oodles of people just like those TLC Extreme Couponers out there. We are infiltrating society, saving money, and making our husbands very happy!

"Do extreme couponers buy fresh produce?"

Do you count Fruit Loops and Special K with Red Berries as produce? LOL! Yes, of course we do!

"Extreme Couponers are disgusting"

Actually we are normal people! Not everyone hoards like the ones on TV. I think you are just jealous because you don't have receipts like I show here on my blog!

"I hate coupons"

So did I...I never used them, but I promise they will become your best friends. You will search high and low for them. You will be addicted to looking at blogs about them. You will have more stuff than you have ever had and have paid less money for it. Now my question is...do you still hate coupons?

"How to become an extreme couponer"

Attend a St. Augustine Savers Coupon Workshop! I will teach you everything you need to know. But I will not teach you how to clear shelves like some of them did. I will teach you how to save your family money and put a big smile on your face!

PUBLIX 1/13/11, SPENT $.55, SAVED 99%

I was on my way to Jacksonville yesterday and ran into Publix to pick up a few things. This weeks ad is not a good one for me. In fact, I see very little in it. I only got a few items because I will have to go back and pick up my refrigerated/frozen items later this week. Again, a very specific trip just for a few things. This is what I bought:

20 cans beans (black, chili and canannelli)
18 Muir Glen Tomato Sauce
2 Hellmans Mayo (look for the 20% larger jar)
2 Swiss Miss (used 2/$2 Q's)
1 Large Vinegar
1 pack gum (if I didn't throw this in, they would have owed me money!)

TOTAL SPENT $.55

If you store will take an expired Publix Q, use the $.55/1 Muir Glen printable from coupons.com and also pillsbury.com. You will be able to print two off each site. If you have multiple computers to print from you will be able to get quite a few! Stack this with the $1/2 Harvest of Savings Publix Coupon. You will get organic tomato sauce better than FREE and pay $.09 can for organic tomato paste!

The beans will be added to my stockpile that I already had. These do not expire until 2013 so I will be good on beans for the better part of the year! Think soups, veggie quesadillas, etc.!

PUBLIX AGAIN 1/11/11, SPENT $12.48, SAVED 93%

I was just too tired to lug everything into the house and take a picture so again you will have to just use your imagination and picture my counter loaded with all this stuff! That darned Kelloggs Q reset again, so I had to print it off all the computers and go out again! When my daughter told me she could eat a box of Special K Red Berry in 3 days, that was all I had to hear. I finally found the Clorox wipes I had been watching for so I was very excited about that. OMG, did I just say that! That is sad when you get excited about FREE Clorox Wipes!

This is what I bought:

12 boxes Special K Red Berry
8 Peter Pan Peanut Butter
2 Crystal Light
Bananas
10 Clorox Wipes
2 Cover Girl Mascara
2 Oil of Olay Cleanser
1 Bounty Napkin
1 Paper Towel (this brings my stockpile total to 11 8-packs...let's see how long they last!)
3 Special K Protein Drinks

I am giving away all the cereal and most of the peanut butter to my daughters. I am sure my youngest daughter will scarf up one of the mascaras and olay cleanser. And hopefully my hubby will have a smile on his face when he sees his stock of paper towels! I still have napkins from last summer so I definitely have enough to last me another year!

BRAG SPOT FROM EILEEN G.

I got this e-mail from Eileen who took the coupon class a couple of months ago. This is what she had to say:

Judi,

I keep spreading the word on how couponing can change your life.

This past week I was not feeling well and I went to the doctors. The doctor recommended that I take Therma Flu and get lots of rest. Well because of couponing I already had 2 bottles of Therma Flu at home and also because of couponing I had plenty of food and soup. I cannot thank you enough for helping me with couponing. Even when you're sick, it's nice to know you have all the necessities
so you do not need to send a family member out to go shopping.

I always tell everyone at a class that if you get a upset stomach, diahreaha, cough or cold, sinus congestion, migrane headache, you will always have the stuff on hand to use. This is proof that I am not the only one!

OREO COOKIES

Who doesn't love Oreo Cookies? Actually, as a kid, my father was a cookie salesman for Salerno Bisquit. As a result of that, I had cookies at my disposal anytime I wanted them. Do you think as a kid I loved that? Actually, no! I got to the point where I hated cookies! It didn't make a difference what kind they were. When you had cookies laying around the house all the time you took them for granted. Fast forward 45 some years (uh oh I am giving away my age), and I still am not a fan of cookies. Yes, I know you find that hard to believe wondering how I keep this girlish figure! That is any cookie except Oreos!! Even though I love Oreos, I can only eat two max! Then I have hit my limit.,,and I may not eat another for months!

So when making up my grocery list I debated this question...Should I buy one or two bags of Oreos? My calculations brought me to the most sensible answer.

Cookies are on sale 2 for $5
Use $1 off cookies wyb milk q
Use $1 off cookies wyb milk q
Use Target $1/2
TOTAL FOR 2 BAGS $2 or $1 each

Now the same scenerio if I buy one bag $2.50
Use $1 off cookies wyb milk
Period.

BOUNTY PAPER TOWELS

Next time my husband says to me "We are almost out of paper towels" he may want to re-phrase it. You see, I know my husband. He LOVES paper towels. Anything that a paper towel can be used for he uses it. Why use a napkin when you have a paper towel? Why not clean the counters with a paper towel? A spill on the floor? No worry, we have paper towels. Refrigerator dirty?...use paper towels! They are his FAVORITE kitchen item. So what did I do? I stocked up while they were on sale this week and bought six 8-packs. If you do the math on what I paid for them, I paid $.66 per roll for some and $.60 per roll for others. Not a bad price for paper towels so I stocked up the J-Mart! The only bad thing about stocking up paper towels is they are quite bulky. Now he won't ask for paper towels because he will see them lined up the wall in the garage. And the best part is I have a raincheck for 10 more that I can buy whenever my stockpile goes down...and I guarantee you it won't take that long!

STEWART'S WEEKLY AD

The new ad is out for Stewarts Produce. The potatoes are a great buy as well as the pears. I may have to buy a chuck roast to do a pot roast in the crock pot! I do mine a little different than most people. I mix a packet of Good Seasons Dry Dressing, a package of brown gravy mix (dry) and a package of Hidden Valley Ranch (dry) dressing. Pour that over your meat in the crockpot and add a little water. It makes the best gravy and it is a change from the cream of mushroom soup recipe. Give it a try!

PUBLIX 1/2/11, SPENT $3.59, SAVED 94%

Sorry I didn't take a picture today. I had too many small items and I was just plain lazy to walk them in the house, snap a picture, and carry it all back out to
"J-MART" (my garage). I was so excited about the canned beans! This is what I bought:

22 cans Black Beans and Great Northern Beans (used Toss for Cash PQ)
8 Motts Medley Grape Juice (watch your expiration dates)(used Harvest of Savings Q and blinkie)
2 V-8 juice
1 Quaker Oatmeal
Romaine Lettuce

TOTAL SPENT $3.59
It would have been $1.59 but I forgot my $2 coupon.

Watch the expiration dates on the juice. All the ones on the shelf were expiring January and February 2011. This is the date of the few I have left on my shelf that I bought this past summer. I really do believe blinkies are used to move merchandise that is getting close to expiring. I am sure it is still good past the January 2011 date. How much past? That I don't know!
